Being Adult

Right now, Im officially an adult guy in the world.

But,I don't even want to think about being 18. There's something...sinister about that number. It's a transition age. 19 carries with it the 'prestige' of maturity as a teen, and 20 evokes the image of a sophisticated young adult. Yet 18 is just slotted awkwardly before this two ages. Like a gawky, coltish child suddenly thrusted into the limelight and expected to perform and impress.

Admittedly, many a person does not agree with me. In fact, these are my very own thinking. many ppl term the age 18 years as the golden time of life.Perhaps, I cant evalute anything positively. Actually, at this moment Im lilbit tense of my studies and upcoming HSC exam.

Well, split it.Now, me a young adult? I hardly think so.if I'm now considered a young adult? What does being a young adult mean?I can vote, I can back home after 8-9pm(!), I go anywhere, I can have intelligent conversations, I am a university student-to-be, I am capable now of earning my own money. Is this the definition of a young adult? Or isthere something I'm missing here?

I guess I'll have to wait and see. The future is as yet opaque to me.

HUH!!! i'm waaay past 19 and i haven't felt that "'prestige' of maturity" yet. in fact, i feel even more immature than i did 2 yrs back (though extremely morbid due to the realisation that my maturing yrs, which is 25 max, r rolling by very fast). use your youth wisely b4 old age, laddy ... erm ... well, anywho ... happy b'day.

"the future is yet opaque to me" - and so it is for the rest of humanity, no matter how much some deny it, especially the 110 year olds

for me 18 meant... i was legally allowed to do smoking or clubbing with friends, drinking as much as i wanted... but... BUT, i knew i would do none of them... so 18 meant, i had to be extra cautious, coz i had all the doors open in front of me, i had to choose which one to use...
and of course voting... our federal election was in few days of me turning 18. o boy, didnt that feel good to have a say in the tamasha (not that my say made a difference!)!
o yes one more thing, for the ppl who gets into trouble with legal system, 18 means big trouble for them... no more juvenile treatments, they are adult now... a few days ago an 18 year old guy got sentenced for 20 years, imagine if he was 17! just a few months younger.. that would make such a huge difference!
